We have just bearly scratched the surface of winter and if your lovable but rambunctious kiddos are already giving you a big case of cabin fever, how will you make it through the whole winter? Besides letting them run wild and tear up your house for the next three months, what can you do to help keep them entertained? Well, today I’m sharing with you some of my favorite (and free!) places to take my kids in the Toledo area.
The Toledo Lucas County Library – The library is one of our favorite places to visit! It is a great place to pop in and thumb the many shelves looking for your next favorite book. My daughter loves to go up and down the isles searching for all the fun books about dogs and play with the stuffed animals, puzzles and computers. My toddler just loves the freedom to touch everything. It’s a great place to spend the morning or a quiet afternoon. They also have story time and family events to keep you entertained. They have a full calendar of events so be sure to check it out!
The Toledo Museum of Art – We love, love the art museum. We were introduced to this gem shortly after we moved here and had many visits already. We visit when they have family fun days (Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday) to take advantage of the free art projects that are perfect for little hands. Their play room has so many interesting toys like unique dress up, doll houses, building blocks, books and more. It is like a mini children’s museum. If they aren’t completely tuckered out from all that playtime, I like to take them to walk around the art exhibits. It is a great place for so many teaching opportunities. Ask them to look for their favorite color or item throughout the artwork. Also, they have lots of interactive art displays too! Recently it was degas and the dance. I mean a place to pretend you are a ballerina? So perfect!
Metroparks of Toledo Area – You will need to bundle up for this one! The metro parks of Toledo are great to visit during winter. From sledding, to nature walks, to learning about history and native animals; there are a lot of fun activities to do at all the local parks. Their calendar of events is packed with both indoor and outdoor fun.
Next time cabin fever is getting the best of you and your kiddos, I hope you will think of these fun things to do with them in the Toledo area.
