Every month, I am part of a group of women who write special letters to their children.  I am so happy to be doing this project for M.

Dear M,

For years, you have been the little sister.  You loved all the attention your big sister would show you.  She showered you with hugs and kisses.  She read to you and played with you and even though sometimes she didn’t want to, she would share her toys with you.  You would copy everything she did.  It was so special to me to watch the bond between you grow each and every day.  I know you miss her.  You were only two and a half when she passed away but you still talk about her.  I hope your memory of her never fades.

Soon it will be time for you to be the big sister.  Babies have never really interested you.  You wouldn’t even pay attention when a baby would cry or if a friend had a new baby.  I slowly see that changing.  You coo and talk to little ones more and more.  I think you know the role you will be taking on soon.  You are so excited to be having a little brother.  People keep trying to tell me how different boys are from girls.  I know they are right but your personality is not a typical girl.  I feel like you have given me practice already for a boy.  You love to get dirty and kill bugs.  You hate playing dress up.  You aren’t princess obsessed and you have only watched Frozen one time since it came out.  Most of your friends have it on a loop of constantly playing.

I love each of these things about you.  You are special in so many ways.  I look forward to when your brother arrives and I get the chance to help you nurture your love for him.
