When you bring your newborn home from the hospital, those first weeks and months seem to fly by. Endless feedings, changing and lots of rocking fill your days. As each day passes, your baby grows and changes little by little. There is nothing more magical than a newborn baby and the family that loves them. So much planning happens before a baby is born. You have the nursery perfected with every little detail and just the right shade on the walls. The clothes are washed, hung and folded. Your living room is starting to look like babies-r-us. Spending weeks or even months preparing for your baby’s arrival is only natural. But don’t forget to plan for a newborn lifestyle session too! After all, the photos of your baby are the one thing you will hold on to as they grow.

What is a newborn lifestyle photo session?

A newborn lifestyle session takes place in your home during your baby’s first two weeks of life. This photo session focus on your love and connection with your new baby. We usually spend our time together with you holding, kissing, feeding and cuddling your little one. Having this session in your home allows for everyone to relax and for all those little details of a newborn in the house to be forever remembered. We will focus on moments, not poses. It’s all about brand new love with this session and this leads to beautiful and natural images that your heart will forever cherish.

How does a newborn lifestyle photo session work? What do we “do” at the session?

This type of session is very laid back, as most in home photo sessions are. Most of the planning is done by me before your session. I don’t bring any props but I will have a few newborn onesies, swaddling blankets, and hats. I will also ask that you set out anything meaningful you want to include with your images, like a hand me down blanket or stuffed animal. When I arrive, I ask for a brief tour of your home to get a feel for the best lighting. Most sessions take place in the master bedroom, living room, nursery or a combination of those rooms. Once we find the right light, all you have to do is love on your sweet baby! I will capture you feeding, cuddling and giving your baby love.

But my house is (fill in the blank with an excuse)!

I have heard all the excuses…my house is too small, too cluttered, too dark or just plain ugly. It may be hard to believe but you don’t need to worry about how your home. I have shot beautiful lifestyle newborn sessions in small houses, in cluttered, dark houses and in houses that may need a little work (haha, mine!). By using creative angles and lighting techniques, those excuses fall to the way side. All we need to create beautiful images in a single window and for you not to be shy to show your affection for your newborn. Sounds easy, right?
