Toledo Art Museum

We love to visit the Toledo Art Museum. There is so much to do, both inside and outside. On this beautiful afternoon, we visited the huge tire swing and spent time running up and down the big hill. The kids walked up and down this huge hill many times. They even decided to roll over and over again. I took advantage of this playtime in gorgeous weather by capturing them having a blast.

Before & After

For this image, I was shooting in bright mid day sun. To work with the light, I decided to keep my aperture closed at f16. This also ensured that the sky would maintain the beautiful shade of blue and wouldn’t be blown out. Since light was abundant, I could easily play with different apertures than what I traditionally choose for other images where the background is not as important.

There was some cleaning up I needed to tend to. I noticed right away the dirt on my sensor that shows up at higher apertures (top left corner). If you notice similar spots in your images, it might be time for a sensor cleaning. I removed the dirt with my spot removal brush. Then I cloned out the blue tape on the window and the one lone cloud. Next, I added more contrast, brought up the exposure, and increased the clarity. Finally, I cropped so my little subjects would be centered. Don’t be afraid to pull out your camera in full sun and try shooting for the sky. You may love what you capture!
