6 Tips for your newborn session

Worried about how to prepare for a newborn lifestyle session at home?  Don’t be! There isn’t much you need to do before a lifestyle session but these tips will help put your worries to rest and allow for your family to rock your session.

1. Tidy up rooms where photos will take place. This usually includes the living room, master bedroom and nursery. You don’t need to scrub every surface Cinderella style (I would never ask a new mom to do that!) but try to minimize any unnecessary clutter. Since the camera will usually only show a portion of your space, we can also “hide” any clutter out of view so don’t stress if you can’t get around to tiding up before you’re session.

2. Turn up the heat! A warm house means a sleepy baby. Since we will be moving around a lot with your baby and repositioning them into different poses, having your home a bit warmer than normal helps them sleep through those transitions.

3. Be prepared to feed baby more than normal. Because we be fiddling with baby more than usual, babies usually like to eat a bit more than normal during a lifestyle session. That’s okay! If we fill up their bellies, they usually sleep longer throughout the rest of the session. Making sure their little bellies are topped off will allow us to move easily from room to room to ensure a good variety of images in your gallery.

4. Include special items. Incorporating special items that might be family heirlooms like a quilt or a hand me down cradle is a must. If an item is meaningful to your family, be sure it is incorporated into your session.

5. Less is more. When deciding what baby should wear, less is more. Simple newborn onesies, swaddling blankets and naked bodies will never go out of style and keep from dating your images.

6. Show the love. These sessions are all about highlighting your bond and connection with your baby. We will spend lots of time cuddling and loving on your sweet new squish so don’t be shy with the affection. Having your hands on your baby and giving extra kisses will always translate into beautiful photos.
