The one session that gives me butterflies

When I first began photographing client sessions, there was a particular type of session that always made me incredibly nervous. Can you guess which one? It was whenever there was a tween or teenager in the family. I think I was so anxious around this age group because I didn’t have much experience capturing their moments in front of the camera.

However, as time passed and I had the opportunity to photograph more kids in this age group, I discovered that they are just like the “little” ones I photograph. They have a deep love for their family (even if they may require some extra coaxing to show affection), and they follow directions so well! Way different from those high-energy toddlers that I love.

This age group can get overlooked when it comes to family photography and I want to remind you that your family’s story is worth remembering no matter the ages of your children. As my own daughter is in her teenager years I’m reminded that time flies by faster than you think. One moment, your older kids are still under your roof, and the next, they’re out there being independent adults. That’s why scheduling a family photo session is so special. It lets you freeze a moment in time, capturing exactly who they are in this part of their lives.

I had such a fantastic time photographing this family with their older teens and tweens. Let me tell you, their bond is absolutely incredible.
