Cynthia is a Toledo Ohio Birth Photographer. She shoots on location lifestyle and storytelling photography and serves the Toledo, Sylvania, Maumee, Holland, Perrysburg, Oregon and Northwest Ohio areas. She is available for birth, maternity, newborn, baby, children and family portraits and storytelling photo sessions.

I first met Marybeth when she was a few months pregnant. Talking to her was like taking to an old friend. She instantly made me feel comfortable, even though that was technically my job! She filled me in about her family and at our initial meeting, she brought along her adorable daughter. I could tell she was going to be a great big sis!

In the coming months, Marybeth and I kept in touch. She would fill me in about her appointments and ask my own pregnancy was going. I felt like I got to know her so well by following her on Instagram and laughing along with her funny captions and stories.

She told me how her first daughter came early and was a quick delivery so I was prepared for her on call time to be short. Little did we know that baby N had other ideas in mind. Marybeth ended up going past her due date and as a mom whose babies delivered well past their due dates, I know the wait is HARD!

I got the call from Marybeth early on a Monday morning that things were happening. She said she hadn’t slept much that night and thought it was time to head to the hospital. I asked her to call me after she got checked in. When she did, her contractions were picking up in intensity so I headed to St. Vincent’s right away.

When I got there, Marybeth greeted me with a smile between breathing on nitrous oxide. She looked so calm and relaxed, taking each contraction with slow and strong breaths. Her husband, Dana, was right by her side holding her hands or rubbing her back. I watched them interact between contractions making jokes or giving each other glances that made it seem like no one else was in the room.

They had decided not to find out the gender so there was a build of emotions surrounding the big surprise. We didn’t have to wait long before Marybeth started to feel “pressure.” It was time to push! She joked later that she roared her baby out.

I remember the pure joy as Marybeth learned baby N was a girl. She exclaimed “A sister!” There were so many emotions as Dana and her met baby N for the first time. Watching them take in every newborn detail is one of my favorite parts of witnessing a birth. They caressed her sweet cheeks and touched her soft, wrinkly feet.

Just as baby N was born, the sun started to rise on that chilly October morning. The morning sun started pouring into the hospital room and everything felt fresh and new. Such a perfect mood to get to know their new baby.

I was 34 weeks pregnant at the time of Marybeth’s birth. Watching her strength and bond with her husband gave me so much inspiration for my own approaching birth. I’m always so thankful to be a part of such special moments and witnessing this birth was truly amazing!
