Just when you think we live in a big world, something happens to make you realize just how small it really is. Some of you know that I’m the co-founder of a non profit organization called The Gold Hope Project – an organization that provides free portrait sessions to children with cancer. Well, we had been working hard on relauching our project and had talked about how cool it would be to revisit past fighters and photograph them again. Then I receive an inquiry from this family. Mom mentioned reading on my website that I founded The Gold Hope Project and how they had photos done through the project when they were stationed in DC. When Olivia was 19 months old when she was diagnosed with very high risk T-Cell ALL. Her cancer wouldn’t respond to traditional treatment and she needed a bone marrow transplant. Without the transplant, she had little hope. God answered their prayers when an anonymous donor was found. She has now been in remission for three years. Her cancer battle will always stay with her and she will remain closely monitored as she grows. New photos were a must to celebrate Olvia’s remission and the arrival of a sweet baby that the whole family swooned over. Words can’t express how thankful I am to be a part of this organization. I know the struggle they faced. My family has been there, fighting alongside our daughter as she faced cancer. Its gritty and hard and lonely. I’m so happy Olivia was able to pull through and honored to photograph them.
