Why you need to schedule a session with your tween

Here’s a little secret…I used to be scared of photographing tweens. There was something about kids that were a bit older than mine. I was worried about how to make sure they felt comfortable in front of the camera and honestly I was unsure how to do that.

Then I realized that they respond in a lot of the same ways as younger children. Building up a relationship with them before taking any photos is super important. The best way to do this is to just talk to them.

This can be a tricky time for kids in this in-between age. They are coming into their own and learning about who they want to be. One thing I have noticed with this age group is they still love to show affection and have fun, even if they don’t act like it.

Luckily, this guy was all about making his mom happy and dad helped me get some genuine smiles from him. I could tell how much they all adored each other and that sure helped us get some awesome photos together!
