I’m sharing a big secret today. One thing a photographer gets asked a lot is what is one of the best locations for a photo session? The answer is right under your nose…your home.
Have I lost you already? You may be thinking, what?!? My house is far from magazine pretty. The list of things that need to be done before even thinking about having photos taken there is just way too long! Why would I want to take professional photos inside my cluttered and imperfect house?
The answer is simple…because it is your home. It is where you brought your children home from the hospital or where you gave them life. It is where you make that big Sunday breakfast that results in a slight sugar high from all the syrup your kids must have on their already syrupy pancake. It is where you spent countless hours watching them play on the swings in the backyard and helped them learn to ride a bike up and down your street. It is where your children will remember waking up on Christmas morning when they are adults, along with countless other memories in the place you call home.
Maybe your home is a constant mess of toys and unfinished laundry or maybe it has some updates to bring it into this century. I promise you, those things won’t matter for a photo session. What will shine through in your images is the love and connection with your family. Your home and the memories that are held inside will forever be engraved into your child’s memories. They should have photographs of a place they will hold dear and they people they love in that place.
