If you’re thinking about Christmas tree farm photos this year, I’m sharing what to expect, what to wear, and why I love this location for families. I’m Cynthia Dawson, a Toledo family, maternity, and newborn photographer who loves creating photos that help families remember these quickly changing seasons.

Christmas Tree Farm Photos in Toledo

Growing up, we never had a real Christmas tree but also Florida isn’t know for it’s real Christmas trees…so when my husband and I started our own family, I loved going to pick one out together as a family.

I loved watching my kids wander through the farm looking for the “perfect” tree. Their excitement made something as simple as choosing a Christmas tree feel so special.

Maybe that’s part of why I love Christmas Tree Farm Photos in Toledo so much. Rows of Christmas trees bring back that excitement and anticipation of Christmas with little ones.

Christmas Photos at Matthes Tree Farm

Matthes Tree Farm is perfectly set up for a photo session! In fact, they have a dedicated part of the farm just for photographers. How amazing is that?

The rows of evergreens give us plenty of space to explore without needing much else. The Christmas trees already make everything feel festive, while still giving us a simple, natural backdrop that keeps the focus on your family.

I especially love having room for kids to move. They can run down the rows or stop to check out a tree that catches their eye. When they need a little break, it’s the perfect excuse to cuddle up with Mom or Dad. We can let them explore and see what unfolds instead of expecting them to stand in one spot and smile.

There are so many little pockets around the farm that give us variety too. We can find a cozy spot tucked between the trees or take advantage of those long rows stretching behind you. It gives us plenty to work with, even during a shorter session.

And parking is easy! You don’t have to trek across a huge field with little kids in tow before we even get started. That’s always a win in my book.

When the Farm Starts to Feel Like Christmas

Being surrounded by Christmas trees that makes these sessions feel extra festive. It gives us plenty of opportunities to play, cuddle up, and enjoy being together.

And every once in a while, Ohio gives us a little snow on photo day!

When that happens, it completely changes the feeling of the farm. Seeing those evergreens dusted with snow feels like stepping right into Christmas. The kids usually get pretty excited about it too, which makes the photos even more fun.

Snow or no snow, I love how these sessions give families a chance to soak in a little Christmas excitement together.

Of course, they also make the sweetest photos for your Christmas cards! The trees give your cards a festive feel without needing a bunch of props or decorations. And after those cards make their way to friends and family, you still have photos that remind you of your kids during this Christmas season.

Cozy Layers + Christmas Colors

Christmas tree farm photos in Toledo are the perfect excuse to bring a little holiday color into your outfits!

Deep reds and burgundy look beautiful against the green trees. You can also pull in softer Christmas colors with warm cream, muted green, or touches of plaid. I love when the colors feel festive without everyone wearing the same thing.

And you definitely don’t have to wear traditional Christmas colors. Neutrals photograph beautifully at Matthes Tree Farm too. Cream, camel, warm brown, and soft beige stand out against the evergreens and keep everything feeling cozy.

Texture is another easy way to make outfits feel right for the season. A chunky sweater or a little corduroy can add warmth without making outfits feel too dressed up.

Of course, we also have to think about Ohio weather! Layers are your friend, especially for little ones who feel the cold quickly. Cozy sweaters, cute coats, tights, or warm boots can all become part of the outfit. You can even sneak an extra layer underneath when you know it won’t show.

The biggest thing is choosing a color palette that feels like your family. Whether you lean into those classic Christmas colors or keep things soft and neutral, the trees already bring plenty of Christmas feeling to your photos.

Christmas Tree Farm Mini Sessions Near Toledo, Ohio

The weeks leading up to Christmas can get busy fast. That’s one reason I love keeping these sessions simple. You get a few minutes to step away from everything else and focus on your family.

Ten minutes gives us enough time for your kids to explore the trees and love on their favorite people. We’ll keep things moving so no one has to stand around smiling at me for too long.

This year, my Christmas Tree Farm Photos in Toledo will take place at Matthes Tree Farm in Ida, Michigan on November 8th and 13th. Each session includes five high resolution images for $275.

These little Christmas seasons change so quickly. I’d love to help you remember this one!
