Are you tired of BAD photos with your kids?

As a mom/photographer who is not always willing or forgets to hand over her camera so I can actually be in the photos, I have learned a few tricks that have helped me and I want to share them with you.

Light Matters

The light you have your photo taken in matters. We tend to like photos of ourselves in soft, flat light. This type of light tends to be most flattering for moms. That means if you are inside, face a window and if you are outside have the light behind you. You can see how where the light falls can affect a photo by pulling out your phone’s camera and doing a little test with it. Face the window and then move away from the light. You will see how much the light changes when you move away from it.

Fast kids = video

Video can be your best friend for those fast-moving kiddos. Having someone take a video of you instead of a photo will allow you to “freeze” the moments you love the most. To get a photo from a video, just play it and then screenshot the moment you want as a photo. Bonus, you get two types of memories with this technique.

Distractions are your friend!

The best moments happen when you are cheesing at the camera. Cuddle, love, and play with your kids. I promise you will love the results!

Overshoot

Options are important so always ask whoever is taking your photos to take multiple images and from different angles. This will ensure you have a lot of variety to choose from and hopefully find a few photos that you love.

Done is better than perfect.

If you have your phone out taking photos, then don’t be shy. Ask someone to take a few of you too! Your kids will want to see you with them just as much as you want to remember the moment with them.
